Day 4 meant Mt. Vernon...I love going there. We lucked out when a nice man with 2 small children handed us tickets to go through the main house ... if he had not given us the 3:45 time stamped tickets, we would've gotten tickets for 6:00!! All because we struck up a friendship with his 2 sweet boys.
And make no mistake: A Marine volunteer was the one calling the line in order : "Any time before 3:40! Tickets before 3:40!" He'd have none of me, when I handed him our tickets stamped for 3:45. Geesh. No one can tell time like a marine...well, maybe Ben Franklin could.
The house is lovely...but it's really the grounds that are the reason we go. The view is gorgeous, and then there are the bulls, sheep, horses, and goats. Not to mention President Washington's sarcophagus, which we visited. The best part, for this mom, is that my children are so wiped out by the end of the visit, they sleep well at night.
Oh, and the questions, the long list of questions.
Did they have airplanes back then?
Where did they go to the bathroom?
What did they do with their garbage? (Graham)
and so on...I look forward to more visits to Mt. Vernon...it's such a lovely place
